Buildertrend

Product Designer • May 2022 - Present

Serving 100+ countries and over one million users, Buildertrend is the leading construction project management software for residential home builders, remodelers, and general contractors.

I started my role at Buildertrend in May 2022 as an Associate Product Designer and was promoted to Product Designer in January 2023. Having worked within major houses at Buildertrend, I have contributed to a variety of projects within materials, core job management, and financials. Currently, I am serving the financials services house while our scrum team focuses on better serving cost+ builders.

Past Projects

Invoicing Time Clock Labor
October 2023 - January 2024

Working to fulfill the needs of cost+ customers by introducing a solution to a very wide gap in our invoicing workflow - and finding ways to make Buildertrend’s invoicing better along the way.

To-Do, or Not To-Do?
March - June 2023

Seeing how we can make quick and effective changes to Buildertrend’s To-Do’s that improve logo churn through accelerated tool adoption and adopting more simplistic UI practices that aid in time-to-value and visual digestibility.

Upgrading Selections
June - September 2022

Improving Buildertrend’s Selections tool by discovering user pain points through extensive user research and testing potential MVPs with the intent of transforming it into a premium tier feature.

My Role at Buildertrend

  • Drives discovery, planning, and execution in the financials space to improve the user experience within Buildertrend's #1 rated web platform and mobile app.

  • Conducts thorough research by utilizing in-app surveys, targeted MixPanel tracking, user interviews and usability studies, and aggregates results to aid further iteration

  • Collaborates heavily with product partners in an agile framework to identify our most vital opportunity spaces, then creates roadmaps and plans sprints with user value and sprint velocity in mind.

  • Executes detailed designs of proposed solutions in Figma through story maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to assess technical feasibility with engineering and test cases with QA.

  • Represents product design internally by continually sharing the benefits of thoughtful design, elaborating on our processes and discovery, and presenting results and user feedback of releases company wide.

Notable Accomplishments

  • Part of the first Buildertrend scrum team to pilot improved agile processes with Artium developers and PMs. As a designer, I was the successful trial run for fitting design principles into XP development, and presented to the company on how more design involvement can improve the clarity of user stories and ticket acceptance criteria in order to prevent bugs and future pass backs.

  • Collaborated with design leads to launch Buildertrend’s internal Design Debt initiative, incorporating company Asana boards, a submission system, and new ADO tagging standards with the goal that design and usability fixes are a key part of every sprint.

  • Led launch of Buildertrend’s new Cost Inbox feature in May 2023, resulting in 3 million receipt uploads over the first 3 months and a retention of 75% MAB (monthly active builders).

  • As an Associate Product Designer, I acted as sole design contact for multiple scrum teams across the streamlined project planning house, executing all user research, UX design, and UI design for 30+ total features in Q1 of 2023.
